Halloween!!

Many people are very touchy about the subject of Halloween. I have never researched the history of it,so I could not tell you where it came from or anything. What is wrong though with letting little kids dress up in little costumes and go get candy? Nothing that I can see. There not worshiping evil, there simply looking at it as yay I am getting candy!! So what's wrong with that? Now I do have a problem with the dark side of Halloween! When they worship satin and evil, I have a problem with that!! It's not right to get involved in all the evil stuff of Halloween but simply letting a child get candy what's the harm in that? Even if your church has a alternative to Halloween party your still acknowledging that there is a holiday there right? If you don't like Halloween don't have anything or celebrate any of it at all. If you have an alternative to Halloween your still celebrating and acknowledge that there is a holiday!! Anyways..lol..I just don't see nothing wrong with kids getting candy. I believe though everyone has a right to there own beliefs and customs..it is America!! God bless!!

I agree 100%!! I don't like all of the evil that is portrayed through Halloween, however I don't see why it is a problem to let your kid dress up. Just don't allow them to be a witch or a goblin, etc. There are plenty of other costumes out there... and kids LOVE to dress up.. and probably love the candy even more! My sister and I dressed up for halloween when we were kids--and I think we turned out all right! If we look into each holiday... there is most likely going to be something pagan connected to it--we just have to keep our heads on straight about it!

Jennifer, we were NEVER allowed to go trick or treating when we were growing up. My daddy had to research Halloween in Bible college and was very disturbed with this particular holiday. However, we have allowed our children to trick or treat for years. Ghosts, goblins, and the living dead are not allowed. They can dress up as fun things. Harrison, for instance, will be going as a pez dispenser this year because he collects them. LOL I was very much agaist trick or treating and still am, but hubby doesn't see anything wrong with it and wanted our kids to enjoy the whole candy thing. They don't know the first thing about the history of the holiday, they just know they're dressing up and getting free candy. There are several different holiday traditions we don't agree on, but we do tend to reach a compromise on these things. :D

Jennifer, Yehovah calls us to be seperate from the world and its pagan holidays. By participating in Halloween, you are essentially saying that you do not see anything wrong with it. Did you know that this is the holiday witches most look forward to? It's their day. Just knowing about the origins of halloween is enough to make me stay away from such darkness. To me it's just like asking, what wrong with reading Twilight or Harry Potter? They're just harmless kid's books, right?

And I am also against churches having alternative "halloween" celebrations because they are in essence, participating in the same thing except done their way. My church's alt. halloween event is even worse than the actual halloween holiday.

At our old church, we used to have the kids dress up like Bible characters. We do not do that at our church now; Our church now has a "Hallelujah harvest" on Halloween night at the house of one of our church families. We have preaching and singing; bonfires and food; and after wards we go from one car to the next getting candy. It's not an alternative, but a solution. If we have kids that have friends or classmates that celebrate Halloween, then our kids are the only ones that didn't get candy. (Which is what most kids look at.) This is a celebration that we have, not as an alternative to the world's wicked holiday, but to show that we do not agree with Halloween. We have changed it for ourselves, so that it is not a wicked holiday but a Christian time. We are in the world, but we are not of the world.

Hello Jennifer~ I wanted to stop by and thank you for visiting my humble blog. I'll be posting some fun confection ideas for Halloween.

I have wonderful memories of Halloween as a child and shared the same when my boys were young. Our home is Halloween friendly for children of all ages. It's possible to separate yourselves from the original origin and recreate it to reflect your own personal outlook. We get over 130 trick or treaters! My hubby and I dress in costume every year. This year we're going with a 50's theme. I'd love to find a poodle skirt, wouldn't that be fun?
As far as those who have summarized in their minds it's offensive....I won't miss them, either will the lil' treaters.
They don't need anyone raining on their Halloweenie Parade!

Sweet wishes,
Sara

I agree Jennifer. There are many things that have pagan origins, but I think it's all your own personal convictions as to what you agree or don't agree with. I mean honestly, the Christmas tree started out as a pagan symbol, because people worshiped the tree, but I don't see anything wrong with them. Halloween is the worst holiday I think, but I still love carving jack-o-lanterns, eating candy, and watching It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, haha. :)

I agree with what Paulina said. Not celebrating is more saying 'we're separate from the world, set apart,' rather than condemning candy and costumes.
It's also Reformation day so that's a great thing to celebrate! Some of our friends like to celebrate this historic day and the kids dress up like church fathers or godly martyrs. It's a fun fall celebration that has Christian roots instead.
